What is Probate?
A grant of probate in NSW is a formal document issued by the Supreme Court of NSW that confirms the legal validity of a deceased person’s will and authorises the executor named in the will to manage and distribute the estate. It acts as legal proof of the executor’s authority to deal with assets like bank accounts, property and shares.
If the deceased person owned property in their name, or as tenants in common with another person, or has a substantial amount of money in their bank account, it is important to apply for a Grant of Probate or Letter of Administration at the Supreme Court of NSW.
